A note on privacy.

Carrot is an early app for researching your interests and making a personal news brief. This page explains the current website and the app currently in a small, invited iPhone and Android alpha.

The app is not publicly available yet. We will complete the operator contact details and confirm the hosted service’s retention arrangements before opening the alpha to wider testing.

This website

This website does not ask for an email address, create an account, use analytics scripts, or set advertising cookies. The interactive walkthrough runs in your browser. Its fonts, images and scripts are served with the page.

The hosting provider may process ordinary connection information, such as IP addresses and request logs, to serve and protect the site.

What the app uses

Speech, search and AI

When you use the microphone, audio is sent through Carrot’s backend to a transcription model hosted by Baseten. Your interests and questions are used to generate web searches through Exa and to produce responses with a language model hosted by Baseten. These providers receive the information needed to carry out those requests.

The hosted alpha uses Render for the API and Firebase for authentication and storage. Notification availability depends on the platform and build. Provider retention terms and final hosting arrangements are still being confirmed; this page does not promise zero retention by those providers.

Alpha feedback

If you submit feedback in an alpha build, the report includes your message and bounded diagnostic context: an anonymous installation identifier, phone model, app and operating-system versions, recent navigation and errors, and selected app state. This helps us understand the report. It is not a screen recording.

Your choices

You can type instead of speaking, choose what interests to submit, edit or remove a stream, and turn off notifications. Opening a source takes you to an external website, whose own privacy practices apply.

For the initial invited test, send privacy or deletion requests directly to the Carrot team member who invited you. A public support contact will be added before broader access.

Changes during the alpha

The app and its infrastructure are still changing. We will update this page as those arrangements become final, including the applicable retention and deletion details.
